Bank holiday beer festivals & bike rides

It’s been sometime since I’ve managed to sit down and dedicate time on the blog but today’s the day, the sun’s out and the weekend is quickly approaching… a Bank Holiday weekend don’t cha know!

So, whats going on?

Shepherd & Dog beer festival

Found in Fulking is a country side pub with heaps of character inside and out, as well as its large beer garden, flowing stream and cracking craft beer line up. When summer comes around the guys at The Shepherd & Dog throw a big old beer festival over the Bank Holiday weekend and that’s this weekend (26th – 29th August)! With bars inside and out hosting Cask, Keg and bottle selections – “the favourites, the wacky and the down right crazy!” Just take a look at the line up below, some can be found elsewhere, but others not so easy with some interesting beers to quench your bank holiday thirst.

A great line up of beer, eh? At the moment one of my favourite breweries is Omnipollo not only for their great brews but also the stand out art work they slap over their bottles and they’ve got some on keg as well as the arty bottles, if you’ve not managed to have their Noa Peacan Stout I’d highly recommend you do as would many others I’m sure! Cloudwater on Cask will be something new to me, I’ve enjoyed all the V’s but not yet cask so that’s on the hit list along with some of the other interesting ones. Raspberry Ice Tea, Pineapple Gose and Rhubarella, all of those are crying out for the sunshine!

Getting to and from the pub can be a little tricky, if you dont mind a walk the bus up to the Dyke with a walk down is one option, the other is taxis or find yourself a non drinker to be your shuttle service, if possible…

Going from countryside beer festival to “beer research” bike ride – Bison2Bristol is a bike ride with a twist of breweries, food and camping.

My beer friends, Bison Beer of East Street recently successfully reached their Crowdfunder to flip off Burger King in the race to gain the derelict pub at the bottom of East Street to open The Bison Arms with help from their friends. The bike ride is a trip for some well needed “beer research” and a celebration of the achievement I’m sure! I’ll be going along for the “ride”, join the fun and visit some great, English breweries along the way.

Bright and early Monday morning is the start line and first off is Portsmouth, the Brewery – Staggeringly Good “beer for dinosaur riders” and from looking around online their tap room looks pretty neat, gold Dinosaur taps for the beer, reclaimed wood furnishings and of course beer and food severed up. The trip continues through to Friday with stops at local pubs along the route for lunch and evening visits to a couple more breweries with Vibrant Forest and Good Chemistry Brewing and the one night there is no brewery in sight 64 Degrees come to the rescue with a big old barbie!

“Ryed with us” will be a product of this bike ride and fits in to the end of Bristol beer week perfectly, Friday morning will be a collab brew with Good Chemistry to create a beer to bring back to Brighton. Friday we can look forward to catching some of the
closing of Bristol Beer week with Wiper and True throwing a party and I’m sure they wont be the only ones.

I hope to manage to post about each day of the Bison2Bistrol next week but if i dont manage to, I’m sure you can all keep up to date with social media goings on!

Cheers guys, until next time.
